About Love X Stereo:
Launched in 2011 by former skate punk rocker Toby Hwang and fugitive astrophysicist Annie Ko, Love X Stereo is an entrancing Seoul electro rock duo whose synthpop songs are garnishing them worldwide accolades. Their double EP series ‘We Love We Leave’ (2016) was followed up by a headline show at SXSW’s perennially packed ‘K-Pop Night Out’ showcase and has been nominated by music critics as one of the best dance/electronic album of the year at the 2017 Korean Music Awards.
Video/Song Review: “Dark and Light”
The video opens with a single beep sound and spoken words. “Once you belong to someone, you always will. You’re part of them now. It drives you so crazy, it almost kills you. But you can’t leave now”. The scene commences in a dreamlike haze, a young woman curled on a bed, in a fetal position, who awakens. There is a moment of self-reflection as she gets ready for a fun night on the town. The video is both playful and sexy, dark and light, and ends the way in starts – reflective. The overall presentation is about the realistic, vs. the idealistic, nature of love and relationships. “Everyday I /. And everyday we / We stay in the dark together, in the dark together / Everyday I /And everyday we / We stay in the light together, in the light together.”
Musically, Love X Stereo is top-notch electro-rock. Annie’s voice has the perfect timbre and breath, creating a moving and arm-chilling vocal presentation over a great track that swirls into a memorable fusion of pop and electronica.
This year, Love X Stereo will be skipping the release of a traditional album in favor of releasing 37 brand new tracks and music videos throughout 2017. Visit Patreon to be a part of the duo’s epic projects.
