I discovered Love x Stereo by coming across their music video for “Storm” mid-last year. I was instantly hooked. Their style is very fun and different and I really wanted to interview them. The chance came up through this site.
This is my first interview and it was a pleasure to have the opportunity to do so with Love x Stereo. They just released their new EP We Love We Leave, Part 1 and will be performing at this year’s Canadian Music Week in Toronto, Canada.
What has kept you busy since the last time we interviewed you?
We were touring, making new albums, and just being super busy…
You have performed in South Korea, Singapore, the United States, and Canada. What differences, if any, are there between the audiences of these countries?
I’d say, US audience have the most instant reaction. If they like it, they just dive into it. And give us actual feedback, which helps us a lot in so many ways. Korean audiences are more polite and shy, but most enduring and loyal, I think.
When you’re on international tours, do you have a goal or something that you wish to achieve?
Ultimately, we’d like to create opportunities to be an international rock band. So, we spend lots of time meeting people and try to make friends as many as possible.
Do you have any “rituals” that you do before you go on stage?
We don’t have any rituals, but we do have to eat before we go up on stage. Food is the energy source of everything… So important.
As a Canadian, I was very excited to learn that you have played in Toronto, Ontario before and will be returning to play during Canadian Music Week. How was your experience in Toronto and how did you become invited to come perform again?
We went to Indie Week Canada in 2013. It was a weird experience for us. We drove from New York to Toronto and came back to New York within one day. Which was crazy!!! But the show wasn’t really what we had in mind. We didn’t have enough set up time, and didn’t get a chance to show off everything. I believe CMW will be different, though. We’re very excited to perform in Toronto once again.
Did you have time to do some sight-seeing while you’re there?
We did sight-see Niagara Falls. The Canadian-side is beautiful…
With the upcoming release of your new EP, you must be very excited. Will you be showing it during Canadian Music Week?
Does your new EP follow a certain concept?
After three years of hard work, we now are comfortable to say that we have our own sound. This EP will easily show what kind of a band we are, and what music we’re trying to do. This album has more 80s synth-pop vibe, and it is just one of the first albums of 2015. We got more to show this year.
I have been always curious about the process of making albums or EPs. Are you able to tell us something about how this EP was developed?
We re-recorded some of the tracks that our fans love. This album is more like a dedication to our fans. We wrote two new songs as well. The songs are “My Anywhere” and “We Love We Leave.” “My Anywhere” is upbeat and playful, so I think a lot of new audience might enjoy it. The lyrics of “We Love We Leave” shows what Love X Stereo is all about. It’s simple, but meaningful. That’s why it easily became the album title.
Did you experience any difficulties while producing or recording it?
Time constraints. Everytime… OTL
If you could describe your new EP in one word, what would it be?
Anything to say to the readers?
Hope you guys enjoy our new album. There’s more to come this year, so please keep up with us. We love you all!
